1868 - On July 20th, Charles Stanley Vicomte Monck calls upon all of Her Majesty’s subjects across Canada to celebrate July 1st.
1879 - The Canadian Parliament adopts a law to proclaim July 1st a holiday.
1927 - Celebrations take place for the 60th anniversary of the Confederation.
1958 - The government organizes a yearly celebration for Dominion Day, each July 1st.
1967 - During the Confederation’s centennial anniversary, Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II partakes in the festivities.
1968 - A large multicultural and professional show is presented on Parliament Hill.
1980 - The government financially supports the launch of local festivities across Canada.
1982 - On October 27th, a federal Parliament law proclaims “Dominion Day”, Canada Day.
